Musk Attends White House Dinner with Saudi Crown Prince

(MENAFN) Elon Musk made a high-profile return to the East Room of the White House on Tuesday evening, attending a state dinner for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The appearance marked Musk’s first major public engagement at the White House since a months-long period of tension with President Donald Trump.

Hosted by Trump, the black-tie event drew a mix of top political and corporate figures, according to media. The guest list included Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, first lady Melania Trump, and House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The gathering also extended into the world of sports and entertainment. Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo attended, prompting Trump to tell the audience he had introduced Barron Trump to the athlete earlier in the evening. Opening his remarks, Trump said: “This room is loaded up with the biggest leaders in the world.”

Musk’s presence was particularly notable given his public fallout with the administration in June over Trump’s expansive reconciliation measure, formally named the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The disagreement led Musk to step down from his role overseeing federal downsizing at the unofficial Department of Government Efficiency and sparked a social media exchange of criticisms between the two.

The pair were later seen together at the September funeral of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, but Musk had not attended a major White House event until Tuesday’s dinner.

The evening concluded a day of ceremonial pomp. Earlier, Trump greeted the crown prince on the South Lawn with a military band, a horseback procession, and a fighter-jet flyover.

The visit comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Saudi Arabia by US lawmakers and human-rights groups over the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi—an operation US intelligence agencies concluded the crown prince ordered, a finding the Saudi government disputes—along with broader concerns about civil liberties in the kingdom.

The administration emphasized the strategic importance of the US-Saudi relationship, highlighting collaboration on regional security and energy policy. Officials said the dinner was intended to showcase these ties and demonstrate support from key political and business leaders.
