Israeli Strikes Leave Three Dead in Lebanon

(MENAFN) Lebanese officials reported Thursday that three civilians died in separate Israeli airstrikes across the nation's eastern and southern regions, representing fresh breaches of the ceasefire accord implemented in late 2024.

The Health Ministry confirmed that an Israeli drone attack on a minibus traveling through eastern Lebanon claimed two lives. A state news agency reported the strike occurred along the Hosh al-Sayyed Ali road within the Hermel district.

A third fatality resulted from an Israeli assault on Majdal Selm town, located in the Marjayoun district of southern Lebanon, according to ministry officials.

Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee posted on X, the US social media platform, asserting the al-Nasiriyah strike in eastern Lebanon targeted Hussein Mahmoud Mershed Al-Jawhari, whom he described as "a prominent operative" in the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Military officials also claimed they struck a Hezbollah member in the Al-Jumayjimah area of southern Lebanon.

The news agency documented an Israeli drone hitting a vehicle in Safad El-Battikh town, Bint Jbeil district, wounding one individual.

Multiple Israeli warplanes conducted high-altitude surveillance missions over Baalbek city in eastern Lebanon and neighboring towns before retreating southeastward, the outlet reported. Drone activity was additionally detected above Beirut's southern suburbs and adjacent zones.

Thursday's bombardments followed Wednesday night's incident when an Israeli drone strike targeting a vehicle in Jannata town, Tyre district, wounded a bystander.

Israel and Lebanon established the ceasefire in November 2024 following over twelve months of border hostilities amid the Gaza conflict. The violence left more than 4,000 dead and 17,000 wounded.

The ceasefire terms mandated complete Israeli military withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January, yet forces remain deployed at five border outposts, having executed only a partial pullout.
