Turkey hopes Syrian ceasefire deal will strengthen unity-based stability
Authorities say the agreement is expected to benefit not only the Syrian population but also regional security and peace, particularly for countries neighboring Syria.
The statement notes that the phase that began in Syria on Dec. 8, 2024—described as a rare opportunity for the country to move toward a prosperous future—has now entered a decisive and sensitive stage.
It emphasizes the need to acknowledge realities on the ground, while expressing hope that all groups and individuals in Syria now recognize that the country’s path forward does not lie in terrorism or fragmentation, but rather in unity, social cohesion, and integration.
According to the statement, Türkiye will continue backing the Syrian government’s counterterrorism efforts carried out through an inclusive and unifying framework rooted in public consent, alongside ongoing support for national reconstruction efforts.
In a separate statement shared on social media, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz describes the agreement as a promising development for Syria’s future and says Ankara will carefully follow how its terms are put into practice.
“We hope that in the coming period the parties will stabilize the process by adhering to their commitments, and that the structures formed with external support in the absence of central authority and carried over from the previous period will come to an end,” Yilmaz says.
He adds that once the agreement is implemented, trade, oil, and other resources can be directed toward rebuilding and development, rather than being used to fuel further instability.
