Syria reports eleven soldiers killed as SDF violates ceasefire

(MENAFN) Syria reported on Wednesday that 11 soldiers were killed and more than 25 wounded on the first day of a ceasefire, following attacks by the YPG/SDF group, according to official statements and media reports.

A news agency reported that seven soldiers were killed in al-Yarubiyah in northeastern Hasakah province, two near Mount Abdul Aziz south of Hasakah, and two in the Sirin area east of Aleppo.

Earlier reports from the Defense Ministry indicated that a drone attack by the SDF on an ammunition site near the al-Yarubiyah border crossing in Hasakah resulted in seven soldiers killed and 20 wounded, according to a Syrian news agency. Army units discovered a workshop nearby used to manufacture improvised explosive devices and drone munitions, including several Iranian-made drones that the SDF had intended to arm. After troops began securing the facility, the group targeted it with a suicide drone.

An army Operations Command statement, also carried by the news agency, said that within the first 20 hours of the ceasefire, SDF forces conducted multiple attacks on Syrian Army positions. These included drone strikes near Sarrin, heavy gunfire from the vicinity of al-Sanaa village and surrounding hills east of Aleppo, and assaults on other areas used by the SDF as military positions, killing two soldiers and injuring several others.

Syrian forces were additionally targeted with artillery in Kharab Ashiq village east of Aleppo and at the al-Aliyah grain silos in the Hasakah countryside, the report added.
