Turkey Commemorates NATO Membership, Emphasizes Strategic Role

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Türkiye commemorated the 74th anniversary of its membership in NATO, highlighting its significant role within the alliance, according to statements from the National Defense Ministry and Communications Directorate.

In a post shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal titled “74 years in NATO. Respected ally for world peace,” the ministry noted that Türkiye has consistently supported NATO operations since joining on February 18, 1952.

“As a country with NATO’s second-largest army, Türkiye ranks among the top five contributors to NATO through the support it provides to operations and missions,” the ministry said, adding that Türkiye remains committed to being a strong and dependable member.

The Communications Directorate emphasized the country’s long-standing dedication to peace, stability, and collective defense over the past seven decades. “Our country, with its strategic location, strong army and experience in crisis management, plays a critical role in ensuring deterrence within NATO, combating terrorism and safeguarding regional security,” the directorate stated.

Under the leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Türkiye plans to continue contributing to NATO’s 2030 vision, strengthening collective security through advanced defense technologies, enhanced cybersecurity, and capabilities to address next-generation threats, the statement added.
