UAE Confirms Interception of Iranian Missiles, Drones

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates announced on Thursday that its air defense systems had been activated to counter missile and drone threats reportedly launched from Iran.

In a message shared on the social media platform X, the country’s Defense Ministry explained that interception operations were underway. “MOD asserts that the sounds heard are the result of the Air Defense Systems intercepting missiles and drones,” the ministry said, according to reports.

The incident comes as tensions across the region continue to escalate following the joint military offensive launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28. Iranian authorities say the attacks have resulted in more than 1,200 deaths and left over 10,000 people injured, including the country’s then-Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In response to those strikes, Iran reportedly carried out retaliatory operations involving missiles and drones aimed at several countries in the region, including Israel, Jordan, Iraq and a number of Gulf states that host US military facilities.
