Iran Says Indirect US Talks Advance, Next Phase Should Emphasize Substance

(MENAFN) Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan stated on Tuesday that indirect negotiations with the US have moved beyond a “critical, sensitive stage,” emphasizing that the next phase should focus on substantive issues and mutual respect.

"As of now, a step forward from critical, sensitive stage...In the next stage, respect and comity should be replaced by rethorics and redundancy. Stay more tuned," Reza Amiri Moghadam wrote on the US social media company X.

His comments coincided with reports suggesting a potential breakthrough in US-Iran talks. Citing a regional source, a news agency noted that “some good news is expected from both sides soon” and that an agreement could be finalized as early as Tuesday night, with discussions guided by Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned that military strikes against Iran would proceed if his 8 PM local time (0000GMT Wednesday) deadline passed without a deal.

"8 pm is happening," Trump told a news outlet, noting that the timeline remained on track. He added that if the deadline were reached, there would be "an attack like they have not seen."

Trump also said on Monday that postponing the deadline was "highly unlikely," stressing, "They've had plenty of time."
