Israeli Airstrike Rocks Southern Suburb of Beirut Amid Ongoing Attacks

(MENAFN) Israeli attacks persisted in Lebanon’s capital early Thursday, as a powerful explosion was reported following an airstrike on a southern Beirut suburb.

State media in Lebanon indicated that the strike struck a residential building in the Shiyyah neighborhood, located in the southern Dahyeh area.

No immediate casualties were reported.

Late Wednesday, Israeli aircraft targeted the Lailaki-Kafaat district in southern Beirut, producing a blast audible throughout the city.

Earlier in the day, Israeli strikes across Lebanon, including the capital, resulted in at least 254 deaths and 1,165 injuries, according to reports citing Lebanese civil defense sources.

The Lebanese Health Ministry stated that the total fatalities from Israeli attacks since March 2 have reached 1,739, with 5,873 people injured.

The Israeli military reported that roughly 50 fighter jets participated in a major operation striking Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon, naming the campaign Operation Eternal Darkness.

It said approximately 100 targets were hit using around 160 munitions within a span of 10 minutes.

Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir declared that the military would continue its operations in Lebanon “without pause,” emphasizing the goal of targeting the Hezbollah group and seizing every chance to reinforce what he described as security in northern Israel.
