Iran's Velayati Stresses Firm Control Over Strait of Hormuz Amid US Talks

(MENAFN) Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, declared that the Strait of Hormuz remains "firmly in our hands," underlining Tehran’s determination to safeguard its national interests. He emphasized this stance following the latest round of talks between Iranian and US officials in Pakistan.

In a statement shared on social media, Velayati reaffirmed Iran’s diplomatic approach, which is centered on protecting its sovereignty and strategic priorities. "Today the Strait of Hormuz is firmly in our hands," he asserted, highlighting the country's firm grip over the vital waterway.

These remarks came after several rounds of discussions between the US and Iran in Islamabad, mediated by Pakistan, which ultimately ended without a resolution. Despite prolonged negotiations, the talks failed to yield any significant progress or agreement.

US Vice President JD Vance, addressing the outcome of the talks, noted that Washington and Tehran were unable to reach a deal, which he described as "bad news for Iran, much more than for the United States." Vance also suggested that Iran had decided not to accept Washington's terms, leading to the collapse of the discussions.
