Israeli Opposition Pushes for Knesset Dissolution Bill

(MENAFN) Opposition parties in Israel have called for the dissolution of the Knesset and the holding of early elections, with a preliminary vote on the proposal expected next Wednesday, according to reports.

In a joint statement, opposition leaders urged lawmakers to support the bill, arguing that the current parliament is no longer functioning effectively.

“Instead of continuing to support a dysfunctional Knesset, we call on everyone to support the proposal of dissolving the Knesset, which will be presented next Wednesday, and to go to the polls as soon as possible,” the statement said.

The report noted that the governing coalition has withdrawn all bills from Monday’s agenda ahead of the anticipated vote.

While the exact timeline remains uncertain, the proposal is expected to move through the legislative process quickly if it passes its initial reading. It would then go to committee review before undergoing three further plenary readings to become law.

If approved, the dissolution would trigger early elections unless voting is held on the originally scheduled date of October 27, when the current Knesset’s term is set to expire.
