US Disputes Iran’s Claim of Control Over Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) on Tuesday dismissed assertions by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that Tehran maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz and would target any US Navy warships entering the area.

"IRGC's navy commander has no navy. American forces and regional partners clearly control the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said on the social media platform X.

The command challenged statements by an Iranian naval official claiming that Iran controls the strategically important international shipping route. It said US forces had supported Gulf allies in moving more than 19 million barrels of crude oil through the strait on Monday.

The exchange comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to rise over maritime security and authority in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for international oil shipments.
